Abstract

Eucalyptus was introduced to Brazil about 150 years ago but planting of this species received tremendous boost in 1966. This sudden change in planting programme took place due to tax incentives and development of technology for ischolar_mained cuttings from the clones. The experiment on production of vegetative propagules' site preparation and plantation management practices' conducted by the Aracruz Florestal have been described.

Abstract

This paper advocates redefining the reserve forests. Wasteland afforestation cannot be left only to non-government agencies. The British recognised the "Reserved forests" as for their benefit only. The paper describes the land use pattern Karnataka. The restriction imposed on land holdings be relaxed. All efforts should be made to associate panchayats and rural masses in this programme.
